"Parking"
2006-2007
Acrylic on canvas, 60x80 cm / 24x32 in
© Ville Kohtala

This is my first contribution to Hyperrealism. It took me half a year to paint, from October '06 to April '07. It is painted with regular painting brushes, and by free hand.

I got introduced to Photo- and Hyperrealism last fall, and became instantly very fascinated by the extreme accurasy, details and realism. I decided to go ahead and make an attempt myself, and half a year later I was finally finished! I have developed my skills and learned lots of useful tricks during the process, and the result is truly satisfying. It has been interesting and fun, and I will definately make more hyperrealism pieces.

When it comes to modern art, nothing is more expressive to me than extreme details and art that truly shows that there is hard work behind it. Hyperrealism would be the art movement that covers all that better than anything else.

The painting shows a street scene from downtown Oslo (the capital of Norway). The reason I chose this image was the spectacular reflections on the cars and the building windows, and the lighting that creates great contrasts.

Parking, acrylic on canvas by ~vijujako is a beautiful composed street scene with wonderful lighting. Oh, did i mention that this is a painting? Welcome to the wonderfully confusing world of Hyperrealism! ( Suggested by ~yvanklestein and Featured by `De-Profundis )

The Monster Inside
Deep inside the darkest hollows of the human body, there lies a monster, waiting for a chance to escape. The stitches are ripped open and blood gushes out. The monster shows its ugly face. That monster is the real you. ~ME

can't fault it one bit. Even though I know it is a painting, my eyes don't believe it. On most of the DA hyperrealism attempts, you can find some part of the painting that looks like it is painted and not photographed - but not this one! It looks ever so slightly out of focus, like it was taken with a very old camera - but this adds to the illusion. Half a year makes you very patient and very skilled!
